Inspiration/ Spring

It's ridiculous. England is neither in Winter, it hasn't even snowed yet, or Spring. I'm so bored of the seasons being in limbo that I'm yearning for hotter weather. Anyway in the spirit of anticipating the upcoming seasons, here's some inspirational images and lyrics!

I get dressed up in my winter clothes
And step outside to look at the roses
But they're all covered in the morning snow

I get dressed up in my summer clothes
And step outside to look at the roses
But they're all covered in their sharper thorns

Let's put on our rain coats
And drench ourselves in english weather
Just to know we're free
We'll bury our heads down beneath the old oak tree
Just you and me

I get dressed up in my autumn clothes
And step out side to pick up the leaves and
I can not believe the whole year has gone

Just open your heart
And the world will carry you home tonight
It will.

Merry January 30th one and all!

The Woman in the Mirror Gonna Change Her Ways

By Jessie Thorpe of Denimology

It's January. It's a time for fresh beginnings, unknown adventures, and change. The new year is all about making personal progress.  Most peeps vow to go to the gym, stick to their diet, keep a tight budget or to quit biting their nails. Why not change your personal style instead?  You can be boldbe tough and take risks! Maybe you need to tone it down, dress your age or stop when more is really way too much! Whether your fashion goals for the year are to be a better blogger, feature top notch photos or be a fashion savvy dresser, surely there is a link or three here to spur on your metamorphosis.

Spring 2012: The Trends/ 20's Glamour

Since the news about a remake of The Great Gatsby staring Leonardo Di Caprio and Carey Mulligan hit the press, designers have been going crazy for glitter, beading and 20's silhouettes. Especially Ralph Lauren who designed the costumes for the cast of the original film. Art Deco inspiration is literally everywhere, consider Florence and The Machines Ceremonial's cover, for instance. I personally am a huge fan of this trend, I absolutely love the flapper girl aesthetic and the glitz, glamour and romanticism of the era.

Left to Right: Philosophy de Alberta Ferreti, Ralph Lauren Collection, Marchesa, Roberto Cavalli

It appears to not be too hard to bag yourself a little of the romantic dress of the era, the highstreet's more affordable options are worth seeking out. Take a look at these from Urban Outfitters.

Ah, this little decorative headpiece would be so easy to make (but who has the time?) and would complete an outfit and easily inject a little glamour to your look. At £8 it's a worthy purchase. Next is this gorgeous flapper-esque dress in a pastel shade of powder blue, by Kimchi & Blue, a perfect party piece that could easily be teamed with a denim jacket for everyday wear. This is such a beautiful garment which has scored two trends in one, at a discounted price!!

I think I will definitely introduce this trend to my wardrobe as trends resolving around a period of time always come back round again, so it's more of an investment for the future.

Happy Sunday!

Love.

Spring 2012: The Trends/ Pastels

Hmmm, pastels. I understand why pastels aren't that popular with some people, but personally I'm sure that those with preconceived ideas of how to dress pastels may have a change of heart for Spring 2012. A whole host of designers and big names in fashion have shown their take on Springs controversial trend, maybe we should get on the bandwagon?

Left to Right: Diesel, Preen, Sportmax, Calvin Klein Collection, Oscar de la Renta, Jaeger London, Lanvin, D&G. Source

It seems the way to dress your pastels for 2012 is with edge in mind. Pastels are faded and in less sickly shades of rose, lemon, icy blue and ivy green teamed with smoky eyes.

The highstreet is also showcasing its take on alternative pastels. Topshop recommends geometric tunics and tie-dyed dresses.

This peachy coloured dress is a great alternative if head to toe pastel is not your cup of tea (whose is?). The tie-dyed twist on the dress gives it the extra oomph, as its so simple accessories would be your best friend. I adore this mohair jumper as it is both bang on trend and - a jumper! It fits the edgy pastel aesthetic with the thinner yarns around the shoulders, giving it a worn appearance. I could see it paired with leather look trousers or shorts.  The final tunic is brilliant if you cant decide which pastel shade to go for and I love that added tribal feel.

So I hope you wont completely pass on the pastel trend this Spring, you might be surprised how easily you can integrate pastel pieces into your wardrobe - no matter what style you have.

Love,
Rachel

Let's Celebrate New Years!

Yes, this is so late! But I've been a very busy bee, being it my birthday on New Years Eve, so I hope you enjoyed the celebrations whatever you were doing, where ever you were!

What a year 2011 was! From the scandal of John Galliano's racist rant, the most talked about wedding dress of the year worn by the now Duchess of Cambridge to Beyonce's baby - has it been born yet or are the rumours total malarkey? I've really had a great past year. However, I don't like to dwell on the past too much as the future is looking equally brilliant.

The colour fashion wise of 2012 is declared to be "Tangerine Tango" by leading colour trend predictors, Pantone, which I am quite looking forward to wearing as it is such a cheerful colour and is seemingly wearable. I will definitely be investing in something tangerine...I think shoes!

London Fashion Week's 2013 collections will be revealing the latest brand concepts, which at Topshop Unique is revolved around America's 1930's era with a rather monochromatic colour scheme and lots of fur.

The Olympics are coming to London which, sadly, I have no tickets to. I would have loved to have attended the swimming events, but mostly to see the incredible fireworks display at the opening ceremony which we had a little sneak peek of on New Years Eve. But in all honesty I'm more excited for the Winter Games, they are much better in my opinion, but then again going to the London Olympic Games is a once in a life time opportunity and I'm sad to be missing out.

Have any of you been to an Olympics Game?

The good thing about entering a New Year is that you are able to start a fresh and make a do-able resolution. Mine is to enjoy myself and stay on top of work at school, not forgetting to blog more often, and learn Italian. Hopefully I will pull through.

I'd like to wish you all a wonderful and fulfilling New Year and hope that we all get the best out of 2012!

Love,
Rachel
